Ready to Battle.

Dear Miss Tinée: Although I am a newcomer to this wonderful city of Chicago, I have learned to look upon you and your column as a real friend to the interested theatergoer, and I resent the ridiculous letter which was recently printed in your column and signed "A Reader."
Undoubtedly it was composed in some manager's office or the box office of some shooting gallery. Certainly it was not penned by a fan vitally interested in your beneficial criticism. THE TRIBUNE and you, Mae Tinee, should be greatly appreciated by the public for your frank attitude toward films, and I believe the majority agree with me. It is such a complete service that, could most theater managers take advantage of your reviews before making a contract to take a picture, no doubt they would invest their capital more wisely.
The public is becoming more educated every day and because it is their money that maintains the moving picture business, they should be allowed to demand what they want. Censors are human, and make mistakes, but they do not render the public any vital service of entertainment value, and from this standpoint deserve no praise.
Theater owners and managers probably would prefer us to read the inviting posters, buy our tickets, and trust to luck. We are fooled sometimes, but not always, and I for one depend upon your reviews invariably. You appreciate a good picture, and so do we, and we want you to guide us. None other than Miss Tinee is our friend and our counselor, and we hope her work will continue and nothing can stop it. We need it. We refuse to be gamblers, and we read your reviews with interest and gratitude.
You and the Voice of the People have been attacked, so may I come to your defense, along with many other admirers? I am certain many other readers resented "A Reader's" unfair abuse of your good judgment and courage, and I gladly throw my hat in the ring and am ready to do battle for you. We will and must have an honest critic upon whom we can depend.
CHALLENGE (an exhibitor).
