Everything Is Ready for the Stratford Opening

By Rob Reel

Source: Chicago Evening American, 3 September 1920, pg. 17.

All obstacles having been either hurdled or completely demolished, the Stratford, Sixty-third and Halsted sts., will celebrate its opening night tomorrow evening.

At each performance there will be room for nearly 3,000 people, and there is no doubt that the beautiful new theater will be filled to capacity, not only that first evening, but throughout its career as a cinema palace.

For the opening attraction, the management of the Stratford has secured the latest picture of "the divine Elsie," "Lady Rose's Daughter." It is a picture of Elsie poverty-stricken; of Elsie richly gowned and coiffed; of Elsie suffering; and, finally, of Elsie supremely happy. You'll find it interesting and you'll love the beauty of the settings, of the heroine and of her gowns.

Rudolph Mangold, the well known Chicago violinist, will lead the orchestra at the Stratford and Walter Blaufuss, another musical celebrity needing no introduction, will be responsible for the direction of the musical programs. Alternating with the orchestral numbers will be organ renditions of music, classical and otherwise. The organist, who has heretofore performed on Orchestra Hall's instrument, is Mildred Fitzpatrick, remarkable not only for her ability but for having accomplished so much during her few years on earth.

The Stratford Theater management not only offers you a delightful entertainment; it asks you to make suggestions for improvement in the service; in the programs, musical and photographic. In short, the management wants you to do your bit in building up the Stratford into one of the most attractive places of amusement in Chicago.
