The following is a selection of articles published in newspapers and trade magazines about Chicago's parks, beaches, and other pleasure grounds during the early twentieth century. The articles vary in perspective. Most pertain to the city's amusement parks and private amusement beaches. Some are highly sympathetic to the amusement park industry and its business interests. Others take a more critical view of the industry. Several address historically significant social and cultural issues such as the relationship between amusement parks and the surrounding community, religious opposition to the parks, government regulation of the parks, and the role of amusement parks in everyday urban life.
