| What
follows is a summary of the leading Chicago-area hotels and apartment
hotels of the 1920 and 1930s, including information about their
locations and origins. (Note: Early in the century, distinctions between
"apartment buildings" and "hotels" were not as
precise as they are today. Some hotels did most of their business on a
short-term basis while others, though willing to rent out a room for the
night, did most of their business on a longer-term basis.)
