Lose 2d Fight to Raise Nazi Banner at Fair

Source: Chicago Tribune, 29 July 1933, pg. 7.

Demands of a group of Nazis in Chicago that the swastika banner of the Hitler government be unfurled over the German-American building at A Century of Progress met a second refusal yesterday on the part of the advisory committee of the Chicago Germans comprising the World's Fair section of the national group. Miss Marie Becker, president of the German-American Hostess Society, Inc., presided at the gathering, which was attended by Vice Consul Tannenburg of the German consulate.

While Consul General Hugo Simon has advised the executive committee that he would like to see the wishes of the government respected and the Nazi flag raised to join the other seven now flying on the building, he does not intend to make an issue of the matter. Since the German government is not participating officially in the Fair, the committee feels that it is not imperative that both the old imperial banner and the Nazi flag be hoisted, although both are now official.
